The Giants followed their usual pattern in 2015 missing the playoffs after winning anothor even year world series title in 2014. Since 2010 every even year has belonged to the Giants and key additions to the starting rotation that finished 11th a year ago in starters ERA at 3.95 needed an upgrade with the retirement of Tim Hudson and departure of Ryan Vogelsong. The rotation got just that as the Giants inked free agent starters Johnny Cueto, and Jeff Samardzija to back up ace Madison Bumgarner. The Giants rotation 1-3 is as good as any in baseball when all three of those starters are on top of their game. If Matt Cain and Jake Peavy can stay healthy the Giants rotation will be very dangerous in 2016 1-5. As for the offense many injuries including star several to Right Fielder Hunter Pence who played just 52 games in 2015 hurt the Giants lineup finishing league average in runs scored and ranked 27th in Home Runs. With Pence healthy coming into 2016 and after big years from Brandon Crawford, Matt Duffy and the addition of top of the order bat Denard Span the Giants lineup has potential to improve in 2016. The Giants bullpen was one of the team’s biggest strengths a year ago finishing 7th in bullpen ERA in the majors. With a solid back end with two pitchers who have been closers for World Series winning Giants teams in Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla the Giants bullpen should be solid again in 2016. San Francisco’s roster is an improved one from a year ago which should bring hope to Giant fans that their even year World Series streak has the potential to continue if the team stays healthy. Yet the Giants will have to prove they can overtake the Dodgers who have won the division the past three years, and the young slugging and now pitching loaded Diamondbacks in the NL West before making a run at anothor World Championship.
