After an awful 2015 the Braves kicked their rebuild mode into an even higher gear this off season. They traded their lone all star Shelby Miller to Arizona for a talented outfielder who will be the team’s leadoff man for the future Ender Inciarte, Dansby Swanson the first pick the MLB draft a year ago among other prospects. The Braves also got big name pitching prospects from the LA Angels along with veteran Erick Aybar in exchange for Gold Glover Andrelton Simmons. The Braves probably don’t have much of a chance in 2016 as those prospects need time to develop but still have a season to play. The 2016 offense will be a mix of veterans in youngsters Nick Markakis, Freddie Freeman, and AJ Pierzynski are among the veterans that will be leading the charge for Atlanta. The team scored the least runs in the Majors in 2015 but with the additions of Erick Aybar, and Ender Inciarte, and a full season with top prospect Hector Oliveria who has a very high ceiling the Braves hope to have an improved offense in 2016. The Braves rotation ranked 20th in starting ERA in 2015 at 4.27 but their most effective pitcher from a year ago Shelby Miller is now in Arizona. The Braves will turn to youngsters Julio Teheran who the Braves put a lot of trust in by giving him a six year contract extension before the 2014 season to lead the way. Teheran however was not very good in 2015 pitching to an ERA over 4. The Braves need improvement out of him among other young starters like Matt Wisler and Manny Banuelos to have a chance to stop some of the MLB’s elite offenses in 2016. As for the bullpen the Braves bullpen was simply terrible a year ago. A bullpen ERA of 4.69 was the second worst in the majors. The Braves hope veterans Joe Johnson and Jason Grilli who will be coming off a season cut short due to a ruptured achilles injury to help improve the Braves pen closeout games. Even with the additions made prospect and major league level wise the Braves will not be very good in 2016 and will hope to close out Turner Field with an at least a sub par season rather than a dreadful one they may be in for.
