LANDOVER MD- The New York Giants offense was dead for three quarters Sunday. Eli Manning who threw six picks in the first ten games of the season combined threw three in the first three quarters against Washington including one with goal to go. The Giants offense woke up in the 4th quarter but the comeback was to little too late as the Giants fell by a score of 20-14 on the road vs the Redskins.
The Giants offense seemed to be clicking on the game’s very first drive but a tipped pass off the hands of running back Shane Vereen was picked off. The Giants defense held down the Washington offense but the Giants offense would falter again on the very next drive. As yet anothor tipped pass led to a second Eli Manning interception. The Giants would block a Washington field goal to keep the game scoreless heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter was where Washington took over. As the Giants offense contunied to struggle the Redskins offense began to click. A 41 yard Dustin Hopkins field goal served as the game’s first score. After a quick Giants three and out Kirk Cousins gave the Redskins a 10 point lead with a 68 yard touchdown pass to Desean Jackson. The Redskins would add one more touchdown as Kirk Cousins sneaked into the endzone on a 4th and goal play from the one yard line giving the skins a 17-0 Halftime advantage.
The Giants had a chance to chip into the Redskins big lead in the third quarter but Eli Manning was picked off in the end zone from the Redskins seven yard line. The Redskins would take a 20-0 advantage into the 4th quarter.
The Giants offense finally came to life in the game’s final quarter. On a 4th and 16 down 20 points the Giants were in desperation mode when Eli Manning found Rueben Randle for a 40 yard touchdown. The Giants offense would score again as Odell Beckham who had a monster game hauling in nine grabs, on 142 yards made a highlight reel catch in the end zone to put the Giants within 6.
On the ensuing Redskins possession the Skins were able to chew time off the clock thanks to strong runs from Alfred Morris leaving the Giants without any timeouts and just 19 seconds to work with. The Giants failed to score with the short time as the Redskins defeated the Giants 20-14 taking control of a weak NFC East.
The Giants and Redskins for now are tied atop of the NFC East with Washington holding the tiebreaker due to a stronger divisional record. The Giants will move onto there date with the Jets in a game for New York bragging rights the Giants will look to get back on track and snap a two game skid and try to regain control of a weak NFC East.
